buy a real handgun and paint the nozzle tip bright orange so it looks like a plastic toy gun. pick a fight with a thug. pull out the gun. he will laugh. shoot him. he will die
(side note: you will be arrested for this)
Only in a cartoon would this be funny lol.
59 more days until NaNoWriMo. I mean, that’s practically tomorrow. Where has the time gone??
I was going through my external hard drive and found a PowerPoint of the 8 stages of genocide from a history of genocide course I took once upon a time.
And I keep making parallels with how society treats the LGBT community. That’s scary, you guys.
The 8 stages are: classification, symbolization, dehumanization, organization, polarization, preparation, extermination, denial.
Classification in this example would simply be the acknowledgement of different orientations. (Straight versus everyone else. Us versus them. Sick! Sick! Sick!) Prevention measures would be use common language - like human or sexually-interested, etc.
Symbolization. This was a little more difficult, but there’s still evidence for it. The symbol of the rainbow is a common symbol used for the LGBT community. Also in this section are offensive names. I’m sure we can all think of a few that apply without me having to go into that one. (And calling everything “gay” that is undesireable is included, people.) Clothing is another one. How many times have you heard the term “flamboyant outfit”? Or “gay outfit”? Hello??? (Not-so-fun fact: Did you know that in Nazi Germany homosexuals were identified by pink triangles?) Prevention methods: stop offensive language and name calling.
Dehumanization is exactly what it sounds like - making the target group seem less than human and denies humanity & rights. Fortunately this has been changing for this community, somewhat. Some states allow gay (and lesbian) marriage. Most don’t. And don’t even get me started with conservative extremist groups. Proclaiming eternal damnation because of sexual orientation? Really?? If that’s not dehumanizing, I don’t know what is. Prevention: Again, stop the name calling and start prosecuting hate crimes. Also, encourage tolerance.
Organization. This is where it starts to fall apart, but only slightly. There are extremists out there who band together and attack the LGBT community. There has been no plans of mass murders yet, to my knowledge. Thank goodness. Prevention - treat these groups of people as organized crime groups and prosecute them.
Polarization. This drives the groups apart. Again, this is where the progression halts, but there are extremists who refuse to interact with someone from the LGBT community. Laws against marriages are included as well. Prevention - protest these laws.
Preparation (making death lists, purchasing weapons, etc.), extermination, and denial (after the genocide) has not happened. I hope it never does happen, but it’s eye-opening to see how far society has gone up the ladder. 5 out of 8 stages. That’s pathetic. Let’s wake up and DO something.
I have my idea for Nano already, but I’m nervous. I’m scared to actually write this. It’ll be cathartic, and I can finally release and let go of old wounds and hopefully learn forgiveness alongside my characters. Needless to say, this one will hit home for me. I refuse to over-think this.
I have to start panicking about NaNoWriMo two months before it starts because duh it “starts” in September, then it starts November you feel me
My sentiments exactly!
